Lifeguarding/CPR

Y-USA LIFEGUARDING

Days vary: 4:00 to 9:00PM

Pre-registration and 100% attendance is required for this 40 hour course. There is a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 registrants per session.
This course is designed to provide participants the knowledge and skills necessary to be a lifeguard and professional rescuer. This course presents skills needed in the pool, lake, river, ocean and waterparks. This comprehensive course offers up to date information on how to lifeguard by anticipating and preventing problems before they occur and by taking action to help those in danger when necessary.

This course includes the following certifications:
1.  Emergency Oxygen Administration
2.  CPR for Professionals
3.  Basic First Aid

In order to participate in our lifeguarding course, you must meet the following prerequisites:
1.  Must be age 16 by the first night of class
2.  Be able to tread water for 2 minutes (legs only)
3.  Swim 500 yards front crawl in 15 minutes
4.  Be proficient with sidestroke, breaststroke and elementary backstroke
5.  Feet first surface dive in 8-10 feet of water
6.  Swim underwater for 15 feet

Are you having a birthday party, teen splash hop or family reunion? Call the YMCA and let us staff your next pool party with a certified and insured lifeguard. CPR BLS - AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION

Basic Life Support for Healthcare (BLS) Providers is designed to teach CPR skills for victims of all ages, including ventilation with a barrier device, use of a bag mask device and oxygen, use of AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. The course is intended for Healthcare Providers as well as those who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements. This is a two year certification. 100% attendance is required. Maximum of 10 participants per class.

Session 1:  October 18 (4:00 to 8:00PM)
Session 2:  November 18 (12:00 to 4:00PM)
Session 3:  January 21 (8:00AM to 12:00PM)
Session 4:  February 19 (9:00AM to 1:00PM)
Session 5:  March 11 ( 8:00AM to 12:00PM)
Session 6:  April 11 (4:00 to 8:00PM)
